Authoritarianism Defined
June 6 + 9, 6-8pm ET
Drew Kinney
In the typical American mind, the word "authoritarianism" conjures an image of 20th Century totalitarianism, such as life under Stalin or Hitler. Because of this inaccurately narrow understanding authoritarianism -- the most common form of government across time and space -- we tend to ignore elements of autocracy in our midst. This course interrogates the concept of "authoritarianism", examines tell-tale signs of creeping authoritarianism, and offers students tools to better detect the erosion of democracy.
