This course examines embodied clothing through the lens of hybrid cultures. Participants consider their own clothed body as we examine theories of embodiment by Joanne Entwistle and Giuliana Bruno, and of performativity via Judith Butler and Amelia Jones. We further consider cultural hybridisation and influence on clothing in a colonial context, using the concepts of "third space" by Homi Bhabha, "contact zones" by Louise Pratt, and "cultural hybridity" by Peter Burke.
