Seeing real and imagined climate disasters, warfare, infectious diseases, and even zombie invasions, we absorb a steady stream of information about civilization’s collapse. This course examines representations of apocalypse in order to understand the cultural history and colonial politics of widespread anxiety about the end-times. We will analyze apocalypse films along with critical readings from indigenous studies, afrofuturism, environmental humanities, and zombie studies.
