This course explores the enduring legacy of one of the world’s oldest classical poetic traditions of the Tamil speaking region of South India. Tracing poetic forms from their roots in premodern poetry to their manifestations in contemporary cinema and political oratory, we will observe how poetry is continually woven into modern life, shaping cultural narratives and public discourse. Understanding how poetic forms adapt and persist offers insight into the interplay of art, culture, and power.
