In Cronenberg’s 1983 film, Videodrome, Brian O’blivion, a pop-culture analyst loosely based Marshall McLuhan, remarks that, “The television screen is the retina of the mind's eye…television is reality, and reality is less than television.” What is the nature of the screen? What is the relationship of ubiquitous screens to the political problems of the present? This course works with questions like these, investigating the predicament of our enmeshment in a culture of the screen.
